Key Highlights of the Match
By SAROJ KUMAR Published: 3 April 2026 Last Updated: 20 minutes ago Watch again Match Scorecard Chennai Super Kings vs Punjab Kings, T20 matches can change in the blink of an eye. Chennai seemed to be well in control after scoring north of 200 runs but Punjab’s audacious batting have overhauled the total.
The highlight of this Game for us, was on the powerplay when Priyansh Arya took all loose deliveries to task. His rapid boundaries provided Punjab the power-play start and fired him with confidence that the target was not out-of-reach.
Another major highlight was the innings of Ayush Mhatre. He dealt with the pressure and played quite maturely considering the aggressive field settings there were. His ability to time the ball and pick his shots had impressed one and all.
Shreyas Iyer’s captaincy was also an important factor. He kept a cool head in the chase and ensured that required run rate never became an issue. His experience is key, specially with Punjab obviously panicking in the middle overs.
Punjab’s proficiency with the bat in order was another thing that made an impact. Without letting Chennai circle back into the match, Shashank Singh (23 runs) and Marcus Stoinis (11 runs) finished things off in a professional manner by getting us over the line.
Why Chennai Super Kings Lost the Match
Chennai could not win even after amassing a huge total for multiple reasons.
The first was that the bowling attack did not maintain pressure in the powerplay. The innings started off slowly with Punjab needing to stay ahead of the run-rate.
Secondly, Chennai bowlers failed to manage the death overs. With lack of quality, he was not able to deliver yorkers and slower balls and Punjab batters were scoring easily boundaries.
Third, average fielding. Punjab rode their luck with a few misfields and missed half-chances during the chase; discord exits only added to their belief academically.
Finally, CSK just couldn’t pick wickets at regular intervals. T20 cricket is all about partnerships, and no one knew this better than Punjab.
